| It’s
been over a month since our last newsletter because we’ve been so
busy! We’ve got our first full month of programming coming up at
the 941 Theater! The days are packed with the 1st ever Philadelphia
Indie Film Fest, live bands with Village Green Productions and our
first theatrical runs of two Philadelphia Premieres, the rock documentary
‘The Gits’ as well as the romantic zombie horror movie ‘Skinned
Alive’ (Winner of the Backseat Film Fest 08 ‘Best Feature Award)!
We’ve also got BBQ’s, the Big Art Show, the Craft Market and more
screenings supporting local artists with ‘Girls Rock!’, ‘Superhero
Excelsior’ and ‘Space Girls’! There is so much more to come, you
wont believe! Check out all the action below!

FILM FESTIVAL AT THE 941 THEATER June 26-29!
The 941
Theater is one of four venues (and a proud sponsor)
in the 1st Annual Philadelphia
Independent Film Festival, which seeks to further enable
the culture of independent filmmaking with screenings and
discussions of locally and globally produced movies and
movies-in-progress.
The festival will screen over 150 films in familiar and
unfamiliar genres over 4 days, June 26-29th. Below is

DISTRIBUTION PANEL WITH ZAFER ULKUCU - FRI, JUNE

The Philly Independent Film Fest will host a panel discussion
with Zafer Ulkucu, (Director of Programming for the Backseat
Film Festival and 941
Theater) at Media
Bureau (725 N Front St, Philly PA 19123) as part of
the festival on Friday, June 27th at 1pm.
The panel topics will include aggregation, tips on marketing
and film festivals as well Domestic and International
Distribution of films on DVD, theatrically and on TV and
the web. Panelists will include Doug Sakmann, Director
of several films which have domestic and international
distribution.

A night of rockin bands at the 941 Theater from Philly’s
newest promotions company, Village
Green Productions!
MJ
Project performs an instrumental, intelligent and funky
mix of rock, progressive jazz, danceable grooves and spacey
but melodic sounds. The Philadelphia-based band's mix of
talent, telepathic tightness and fearless appreciation of
improv builds up to a rock-solid groove and impeccable sound
that works on many levels. After almost 10 years of practicing
and honing its original style.
The Indobox
is more than a simple 4-piece rock outfit. The Indobox is
more than just nice songs with catchy lyrics. Hailing from
Boston, MA with its roots in Northeast PA, this band is
quickly reaching across the East coast, captivating listeners,
and starting parties everywhere they go, bringing something
we call DanceRock..
The
Green Light Society is a Philadelphia based band with
electronic, hip hop, and funk sensibilities.

for him; she is a prostitute who is feeding on the men of
New York City. Melissa Bacelar and Jack Dillon star in a
film about love, loneliness and flesh eating. WINNER OF
THE BACKSEAT FILM FESTIVAL 2008 ‘Best Feature’, the grand
prize being the first film to be features in a theatrical
run at the 941 Theater! Originally called ‘Eat Your Heart
Out’, shortly after the Backseat Film Fest the movie was
picked up by Lionsgate for International Distribution!

The Gits: The rousing and heartbreaking
story of Seattle band The Gits, whose promising start was
cut short by the tragic murder of spirited lead singer Mia
Zapata. Part of a 20 city simultaneous nationwide release.
The screening on Monday, July 7th will be a special screening
on the 15th anniversary of Mia Zapata’s death with a celebration
of her life’s work. Featuring Joan Jett and Kathleen Hanna
as well as members of 7 Year Bitch and Bikini Kill.

GIRLS ROCK! MOVIE PREMIERE AND RECEPTION
AT THE 941 THEATER - July 11th
GIRLS ROCK! A movie for kids and grown-ups of all ages, the
film follows the journey of girls in a rock n’ roll camp.
The Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls is a place where 8-18 year
olds come from all over the country to learn Rock DIY-style--forming
bands, writing songs and building community. To benefit local
initiative there is a Girls Rock Philly, and this screening
will help to raise money for the cause! Reception will precede
screening, featuring members of the Philadelphia chapter of
‘Girls Rock!’
