Company
History
Backseat Conceptions began in the Summer of 2002 when a group of young
film and promotions professionals toured nationally on the Vans Warped
Tour. The crew members recognized in each other a diligent work ethic,
similar goals and the fact that they were each uniquely achieved for their
age. In the following months, the company was temporarily located in Brooklyn
NY before relocating to Philadelphia where they have remained since that
time.
Backseat Conceptions started out as a production and promotions company
with a major focus on live promotions, but as the years have past Backseat
has expanded to cover all types of multi-media production
and post-production. As a production
company Backseat has created or has been a partner on 15 feature films,
several TV Pilots as well as countless shorts, music, viral and industrial
videos.
While Philadelphia is not a very busy film & video production city,
Backseat has been able to telecommute and work with productions all over
the world. In addition to maintaining and developing our company and personal
skills, Backseat is committed to bringing more feature film work to Philadelphia
and developing local film crews.
Keeping in the tradition of the Backseat crew's history with live event
production and promotion, one of the companies many in-house projects
is the Backseat
Film Festival, a touring rock and roll film festival now in it’s 6th
successful year. Besides promoting all kinds of cinema, the festival helps
the company stay in constant contact with a roster of developing filmmakers
from all over the world. A good number of these filmmakers have come to
work with Backseat on a regular basis. The Backseat partners are also
opening an independent movie theater in Northern Liberties, Philadelphia
called the 941 Theater
this summer to further promote cinema, live theater and the projected
arts.
Some notable Backseat campaigns include the Warped Tour slasher flick
series produced by Backseat, "Punk
Rock Holocaust", which garnered
major national press attention for the company, spawned two sequels
and was featured in a retrospective at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
in Spring 2007. Backseat was also a major content provider in the Bikini
Bandits web campaign for Gyro
International which continues to generate well over 4 million views
on iFilm and has appeared on Spike TV and MTV2 amongst many other media
outlets.
